Finding peace inside is one of the keys to natural weight loss. Expert use tapping is the most profound tool I’ve ever found to get help clients achieve this.
What disrupts peace with food and peace with our bodies specifically is often unconscious however for many. For example, we may set goals from our conscious awareness. We say we want to lose weight, but then what happens? For many, unconscious motivations will prevent them from moving forward with that goal. It is like having our foot on the gas and the brake at the same time. The goal ultimately is simply to get the foot off of the brake.
The exercise below is one way using EFT Tapping for weight loss specifically, you can discover where your foot may be on the brake and begin to release it so you can find lasting peace with food and your body and lose weight naturally.
Step One: Discover Unconscious Blocks
- Write your exact weight loss goal clearly and specifically. You can state the amount of weight you want to lose, how you want to feel and what your life will look like to you when you get there for example. This is your conscious intention.
- As soon as you state your goal, you may notice negative thoughts and feelings come up. These often take the form of “yeah, but…” and may be significant internal blocks or obstacles to reaching your goal. Common examples may take some form of the following: “Yeah, but I won’t be able to maintain my weight loss, or all I have to do to get there…”, “I can’t picture being at my goal weight, I have so far to go”, “It will take too much work and I’m too tired or overwhelmed already”, “I haven’t been able to do it before, so why now”, “I’ll feel deprived and like I have to eat foods I don’t want to eat..”etc. “Even if I lose the weight I still won’t be happy, so maybe it doesn’t matter anyway”, “I don’t want to have to give up… (you name the food or habit)”, “If I lose weight, others will be jealous or try to sabotage me”, “I don’t want to eat differently than (my spouse, my colleagues, my friends, my family, etc)”, “I have too much to do and am too busy, can’t make time for one more thing in my schedule”, “I can’t or don’t know how to make myself a priority.”
3. Rate each negative belief or “yeah but” that came up from 1-10. 10 being the most true or intense for your currently. You will be re-rating it after several rounds of tapping. We want the number to decrease and basically tap until it does. This is a simplified version of tapping for beginners just getting started. There is more to it, (see class being offered below, or the option to work with me one-on-one if you’d like to learn more) but this is a way to get started.
Step Two: Release Unconscious Blocks
We have energy points throughout our bodies called meridians that can be stimulated. If you have ever had acupuncture you understand this concept except have experienced this with the use of needles. However we can also gently tap these points with our fingertips to receive benefit with emotional release as discovered in the last 20 years by two pioneering men, Roger Callahan, a Psychologist and Gary Craig, an Engineer.
I enjoy using EFT-Emotional Freedom Techniques ( you can get the Tapping Points here) as well as other tapping exercises to release emotion, beliefs and old patterns or habits because I have seen the best results over the years with these techniques. It is really that simple. I have no agenda, just getting results and tapping really works- of course it does take time and skill to get even more effective at it, but even beginners can start to see shifts if they use it enough.
Here is a tapping script for some of the most common beliefs that I’ve worked with recently in my class Healing Subconscious Blocks to Weight Loss using EFT tapping for weight loss (You can also find this course on DailyOm by clicking HERE) and from the above example for this exercise:
Tap through the points in this sequence while stating out loud:
Side of the hand: “even though I feel I have too much to do, I’m overwhelmed and I’m tired… I can’t fit another thing in my schedule and it will be too much work… I love and accept myself.” (repeat 3 times)
Inner eye: I have too much to do already
Outer eye: I can’t do it all
Under eye: It will be too hard to be trying to lose weight
Upper lip: It’s going to be hard and too much work
Chin crease: I’m already overwhelmed and can’t fit one more thing in to my schedule
Collar bones: Don’t make me do one more thing…
Side of body: I’m totally overwhelmed
Top of head: This will just be too hard and I can’t do it
Repeat this sequence until you feel some of this begin to shift or follow what it shifts into. Here is how it went recently in class after tapping on all the variations of the above:
Inner eye: What if it didn’t have to be hard?
Outer eye: What if it could be easy?
Under eye: What if it could even be uplifting and fun?
Upper lip: What if it could be inspiring?
Chin crease: What if it could be energizing?
Collar bones: What if weight loss isn’t about work and “doing”, but letting go
Side of body: What if it is about feeling all my feelings and accepting them instead of eating them?
Top of head: I love and accept myself and all of my feelings now
The group tapped through the points several more times with other possibilities, including that this is not another diet plan, counting calories, restricting, forcing, or eliminating favorite foods, or exercise plan but a process of letting go and loving and accepting oneself.
It is genuinely a process of discovery and inner peace that ADDS to our lives instead of takes away. It gives us energy instead of overwhelm and fatigue as we release stress and trapped emotion. All action comes after belief.
What is truly possible when we really believe in something positive for ourselves?
